About

North Yorkshire Bat Group

North Yorkshire Bat Group is the only organisation concerned with the conservation of bats and furthering public understanding of bats in the county.  We cover the modern county of North Yorkshire, the City of York, Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland.  In Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland we work in conjunction with Durham Bat Group and Tees Valley Wildlife Trust.

The Group was officially founded in 1985, although the founder members had been carrying out bat work under the auspices of the Yorkshire Mammal Group since the late 1970s.  North Yorkshire Bat Group remains part of Yorkshire Mammal Group, but if your interest is mainly bats you can join NYBG separately.

The Group holds a range of events, publishes an occasional newsletter, gives talks about bats to other organisations, monitors planning applications for their impact on bats, surveys, studies bats and provides advice about bats.
